Artist Fitz Fitzgerald
Shalese “Fitz” Fitzgerald is based in Springdale, Arkansas and is constantly exploring immersive mathematics. With degrees from the University of Arkansas, previous exhibitions have featured 2D and 3D work at The Medium, UAMS in Little Rock, U of A Fayetteville, Fayetteville Public Library, and the Bridges Organization. Most ideas come to him around 2 AM and a few make it to full scale completed works. Models begin as scraps of paper, string, dowels, and Zometools. Full scale works employ the abbreviated contents of a home improvement store with some LEDs and old computer parts thrown in for flair.
While not immediately obvious, Fitz maintains that being transgendered is hugely impactful in his work. The first drawings began more than 30 years ago then sat for decades, buried by the need to stay out of trouble and maintain employment. Mathematical form was always his reprieve- a place without gender, time, or societal notions of right and wrong. Like the pieces which often have no beginning or end, the realization of these works and the time it took is both happy and sad.
